Extended Stays in Rochester: Furnished Rentals for Medical, Work and Relocation Trips
What to look for in a monthly furnished rental in Rochester, NY, whether you are on a travel contract, relocating, or here for a long medical stay.
A one-night stay and a two-month stay are completely different problems. Rochester gets a steady stream of people who need the second kind: travel nurses and techs on contract at Strong Memorial or Rochester Regional, visiting faculty at the U of R or RIT, families with a patient in long treatment, and people relocating who need somewhere to land while they house hunt.
Here is what actually matters when you are booking something longer than a week.
## Ask about the monthly rate before you book
Nightly pricing is built for weekends. Almost any host would rather have a confirmed month than chase seven separate bookings, and most will price accordingly. If a listing does not show a long-stay rate, ask. The worst answer is no.
## Check the kitchen, not the photos of the kitchen
For a long stay, the question is not "is there a kitchen" but "can I actually cook here". A real stove, oven, fridge space, pots and pans, and counter you can work on. Eating out for six weeks gets expensive and grim fast.
## Find out the laundry situation up front
Some homes have a washer and dryer. Some do not and rely on a nearby laundromat. Neither is a dealbreaker — but you want to know before you arrive with a suitcase, not after.
## Confirm the workspace
If you are working, a desk and a chair are not optional. Ask where you will sit for eight hours. Ask about the Wi-Fi.
## Understand exactly what you are booking
This is the one that catches people out. "Private room" and "entire place" are very different arrangements, and the difference matters more the longer you stay. A private room with a locking door and shared kitchen can be a great long-stay value — but you should know going in that the kitchen and bathroom are shared, and that another bedroom may be occupied.
## Talk to the host
For a long stay, this is the single best signal. A host who answers clearly, tells you what is and is not included, and does not dodge questions is worth more than a slightly cheaper listing.
